Beef Curry w/ Croquette

A couple days ago I found out that one of my favorite "secondary" TV shows, The 4400, had been cancelled. This severely pissed me off as it had been in my opinion, one of the best shows on USA. Granted, it was also the ONLY show I watched on USA, but that's neither here nor there. The theme song by Amanda Abizaid is my cell phone ringtone. It's a great lil tune!



So anyway, yeah, I'm mad. Especially since this is the THIRD good, quality show that has been cancelled in the past year. (the second being Journeyman) However, I was happy to find out that there is a movement to save the show, much like the one that successfully saved Jericho. If I'd had my way I would have picked The 4400 over Jericho hands down. You can buy sunflower seeds to send to the network to protest the cancellation. It's 5 bucks though... so I'm still debating. lol Some fan I am.

For lunch today I am having beef curry rice with curry croquette. I plucked out the carrot slices and cut them into flowers with my veggie cutter and then shoved the leftover carrots underneath. The flowers are a little thick, but I didn't have time to slice them up. I had fried two croquettes, but burned the first one by accident... It wouldn't have fit in the bento box anyway!!

My ear has become a mess. I've got this bumpy rash all over it and I totally blame my little eye makeup remover snafu. I can't even tell if it's swollen because all I can think about is how badly it itches. If the rash doesn't clear up soon, I'm definitely going to see my dermatologist.

Curry & Veggie Croquette

I'm one of those market shoppers that go with a list but then grab things that look good or things that are on sale and as a result I have a freezer that requires grunting to close because it's so full of frozen foods that I may one day use. This morning I decided to actually USE some of it and fried up one curry croquette and one veggie croquette. These are quite yummy and easy to make. All you do is deep fry them, I like to use a tiny little pot so that it covers the whole patty yet doesn't use up a ton of oil.


Last night I made teriyaki beef for dinner and we ate it all, but still had a lot of rice left so I was a bit generous with my rice portion this morning. I topped it with Seto Fumi furikake then put the croquettes cut in half on top of it. To add color I put some little carrot sticks and some corn.


Yesterday I mentioned that I would be mailing orders out, but as we were driving to the post office Mr. Pikko asked me if I wanted him to try picking the three Hayden mangoes that he had seen at his gramps' house the other day. Dangle Hayden mangoes in front of me and I lose all rational thought, so we went to try to pick them. Turns out the mango tree hates short Japanese people and we couldn't get the picking stick high enough to get them. By the time we were done with this futile attempt, we had to just hele onto the freeway to pick up the kids in time. My in-laws come back today though, so I will be able to go this afternoon for sure. I apologize for the delay. ; ;

Too bad for me that this morning I started cooking dinner for tonight, not realizing that we weren't even going to be eating at home. So now I have mochiko chicken marinating and we're not going to eat it. What I'll do is fry it tonight, freeze it, then defrost for the Charleston Southern game on Saturday. This will go along great with the plan I have for the onigiri. You'll see what it is! I'm terribly excited to do it!!

In my hasty post yesterday I forgot to mention that the UH football team won against UNLV Saturday. We're now 3-0! It was pretty hilarious to see the big Hawaii crowd because they were mostly old Japanese people retired in Vegas. Someone even had an old Rainbows banner! If you didn't know, Vegas is the Florida for Hawaii. That's where people retire to.

Curry Croquette

My husband has expressed distate at being referred to as "Mr. Pikko" so for today I will refer to him as Pokko, which was the name of his character back when he played FFXI with me. After this, I'll switch back to Mr. Pikko just to be evil. *snicker* Anyway, Pokko received his call for new season tickets today and he managed to get us the amount of tickets we wanted, though not in the section he'd been told by another lady. We'll probably go buy them later this week and once we do, guess what that means?!? Solid excuses to make football game bentos for the entire UH home football season of twelve weeks! Not thirteen! *cough* hermanfraizersuxass *cough*

Two days ago my latest bento treasure arrived from Japan. I got this beauty for a very reasonable $5.00 plus combined shipping with another box I will use soon. Isn't it wonderful!??! I do believe this is the nicest one I have now.


Inside I have pan fried asparagus on one end, then a curry croquette sliced in half and laid next to some brown/white rice. I have no idea what the croquette will taste like, but it's only 2 points, which I felt was a great deal for something so big. I fried it in the leftover oil from the asparagus so there are little flecks of very tasty burnt garlic on it.


Not only was this awesomest box pretty, but it came with a matching bag!

Today I was supposed to be on a plane to Los Angeles to attend the Anime Expo 2007 but instead I am here at home. The trip had to be canceled due to another engagement I have to take care of. I'm bummed, but I've been promised some of the loot from AX so it's not a total loss! And as a bonus I was 128.6 yesterday morning!
